Who We Are

At Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador, we believe in the power of sport to transform lives. We are a province-wide community dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability through year-round sport, training, and competition. With over 600 athletes participating in 16 different sports, supported by hundreds of passionate volunteers, coaches, and supporters, we are more than just a sports organization — we are a movement of inclusion, dignity, and joy.
We are part of a global movement that enriches the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities – of all ages and skill levels – through the transformative power of sport.

Sport has an incredible capacity to transform lives, change attitudes and make communities stronger. By bringing people together, Special Olympics teaches us to recognize our similarities rather than focus on our differences.

Every program, event, and opportunity we create is designed to celebrate ability, build confidence, and foster friendships that go far beyond the playing field. Together, we’re creating a stronger, more inclusive Newfoundland and Labrador — one athlete, one game, one victory at a time.

Providing lifelong benefits

Special Olympics exists to serve the needs of people of all ages and all levels of ability, from the individual who will stay active for life, regularly participating in local sport programs, through to the athlete who will advance and compete at National and International competitions.

For individuals with an intellectual disability, Special Olympics programs may be the only place where they have an opportunity to engage in their communities, and to develop leadership and life skills.

For many, it is a gateway to confidence, empowerment, competence, and acceptance.
