Title: Special Olympics Saskatchewan Athletics Team Manager

Overview:  

The role of the Athletics Team Manager is to organize, prepare and supervise the members of Special Olympics Saskatchewan (SOS) Athletics athletes leading up to and during the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games (WCSG) in Swift Current, Saskatchewan (August 13 - 18, 2019). Provide technical and administrative support to the Head Coach. Ensure the SOS team members experience the social, emotional and physical benefits of participating at Western Canada Summer Games. SOS  will have 4 athletes (2 male and 2 female) attending the Games. The SOS team is a small part of the whole Team Sask Athletics team. The SOS Athletics Team Manager will be on call 24 hours a day and have support from the SOS Athletics Head Coach, Team Sask Athletics Head Coach, and Team Sask Mission Staff. 

Accountabilities:  

The Athletics Team Manager is a volunteer position accountable primarily to the SOS Athletics Head Coach, the Team Sask Athletics Head Coach, and the Team Sask Chef de Mission. The Athletics Team Manager also works closely with SOS provincial staff in the implementation of duties.

Qualifications/Skills Required:

  • Registered with Special Olympics Saskatchewan
  • Make Ethical Decisions (MED) Certified
  • Respect in Sport (RiS) Certified
  • Experience coaching or mentoring Special Olympics athletes
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Leadership abilities
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written), organizational and administrative skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • CPR and first aid is an asset
  • Experience with multi-sport games is an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Regular communication with SOS Athletics Head Coach, Team Sask Athletics Head Coach and Team Sask Mission Staff;
  • Attend the 2019 WCSG Athletics Team Sask Camp in Saskatoon on June 29, 2019
  • Attend the 2019 WCSG Athletics Tri-Province Meet in Regina on July 15-16, 2019
  • Attend the 2019 WCSG in Swift Current from August 13-18, 2019
  • Work with the SOS Athletics Head Coach and Team Sask Staff to ensure the effective operation and management of team members at respective venues;
  • Act as a role model for team members throughout the Games, and conduct oneself accordingly to the SOS “code of conduct”;
  • Provide for, and ensure, supervision of all respective team members at all times during the Games; Your primary athletes will be the 2 male SOS athletes, your secondary athletes will be the 2 female SOS athletes
  • Attend scheduled daily coaches meetings for respective sport;
  • Be aware of the location of first aid treatment areas, and outline an emergency plan with SOS Athletics Head Coach and Team Sask Staff;
  • Ensure that the athletes and coaches assemble on time and are appropriately dressed for all scheduled activities (competitive and social);
  • Ensure that the athletes are provided with  an appropriate warm-up for all members at the venue; 

Compensation:

This is a volunteer position.  Associated costs such as mileage, travel, lodging and meals will be covered by Special Olympics Saskatchewan.
