Special Olympics PEI has received a $19,905 donation from the PEI Automobile Dealers Association (PEIADA). This year is the 38th year that Special Olympics PEI has been the charity of choice for PEIADA.  This year’s donation brings the cumulative total donated to Special Olympics PEI over the past 38 years to over $322,905.

The history of the partnership between the PEI Automobile Dealers Association and Special Olympics PEI reaches back to 1987.  Following the lead of its national body, the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association (CADA), PEIADA began supporting Special Olympics PEI. Now, 38 years later, PEIADA still exclusively supports Special Olympics PEI as its charity of choice.

Each year PEIADA holds the April Car Campaign, when Dealer Members remit to the PEIADA office, a sum of money for every new vehicle sold / leased during the month of April. This money goes towards a collective donation to Special Olympics PEI. This donation is coupled with the proceeds garnered from a live auction of several items at PEIADA’s Annual Golf Tournament and Lobster / Beef Dinner.

We are absolutely thrilled to be able to continue supporting Special Olympics PEI in such an impactful way! Throughout the partnership we have had many opportunities to connect directly with the athletes and volunteers, including more so in the last number of years when we have hosted a Special Olympics team in our Annual Golf Tournament. Seeing the abilities of these athletes, and the importance sport has in their lives, leaves everyone at the PEI Automobile Dealers Association knowing the power our support has on the lives of Islanders with an intellectual disability.

The impact from the collective donations from the PEI Automobile Dealers Association over the last 38 years has been incredible, and has extended beyond financial. The inclusion of golf athletes James O’Holloran and Colton Matheson, along with volunteer coach Jamie Matheson and Special Olympics PEI’s Program Director, Matthew McNally in the Golf Tournament has been a meaningful way to not only showcase the abilities of our athletes, but also connect the generous members of PEIADA directly with our athletes.
