Kyden Servos from Summerside has been a Special Olympics athletes for 6 years. Ahead of the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games 2026, Kyden is one of 16 Team PEI hopefuls who are competing this weekend at Special Olympics PEI's Bocce Provincials.

Following a close semi-final games Kyden reflected on his experience at Bocce Provincials:

I love getting to play. There have been a lot of close games. It's a lot of fun. I like being able to hang out with my friends.

At just 14 years of age, Kyden is fairly new to the competitive side of Special Olympics. Kyden father, Brent Servos, also heavily involved as a volunteers with a variety of Summerside areas programs, shared a bit about Kyden: "Kyden is an (Special Olympics) athlete with autism. Throughout his childhood, he's had a few difficulties feeling like he could fit in and keep up with the other kids that are at his age.  Although he's had some limitations Special Olympics allows him to socialize and to also compete at his strongest ability with everybody else that he enjoys being with.”

He would never really show his competitiveness to anybody else, but in his own mind, he'd be kind of competing with himself and he wants to wants to win. At the same time, he just enjoys getting out in this kind of a space.

When he's not playing bocce, or participating in 5-Pin Bowling in the winter, Kyden loves watching sports.  While he doesn't play hockey, he loves watching it, and following along with all the stats. Especially now with the NHL Draft, Kyden is busy adjusting all the players on his gaming system and keeping track of everything that way.

Brent adds that Kyden is very knowledgeable, and does very well academic in school. Kyden just gradated Grad 9, with a 95 average, and is moving on to Three Oaks High School next year. Kyden is looking forward to the opportunity to select some of his own courses in High School. For the Fall he has selected a few carpentry and business focused classes.

He's looking to go into the trade side of things. We've been very upfront with them and everything too, that sometimes, same with the sports, his physical abilities, like even with his dexterity and his hands, things could be challenging. So I could really see him being more into the design side, like creating the blueprints and things like that. But by all means, we're not going to get in his way if he decides he wants to be hammering and nailing, because there's lots of opportunity around the world for that, so.
