Summer Sport Programs
Athletics (Track & Field)
Athletes take part in running events, which can range from short prints to middle and long distance runs, and field events, such as long jump, javelin and shot put.
Basketball
Athletes begin by learning to handle the ball and keep it under control while dribbling. Additional skill development is given for shooting, passing, and defense. Athletes then learn game strategy to play 5 a side games.
Bocce
A cross between lawn bowling and curling, this sport takes place outside. The basic goal of the sport is to roll a bocce ball closest to the target ball, called the palina, to try and outscore the opponent.
Multi-Sport
These programs offer a specific sport for a short time period of time and then change the focus after a few weeks / months.
Golf
This program takes place at a golf course and weekly sessions focus on skills development. When ready, there is 9-hole and 18-hole stroke play golf options available to athletes. The game of golf uses golf clubs to hit the ball into a hole using the fewest number of strokes possible.
Soccer (Competitive)
Special Olympics Soccer is 7 a side. The object of the game is to score by kicking the ball into the opponent's net, by working as a team and using different skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting.
Softball
Special Olympics softball uses slow pitch rules. Teams aim to score as many runs as possible against the opponent by striking the ball with a bat and running around the bases.
Fitness Programs
Fitness programs consist of a workout that includes various fitness activities led by a trained instructor.
Walking
Outdoor walking programs where athletes go for a walk together are a great low-impact opportunity for athletes to be active and social.
Youth Multi Sport
The goal of this program is to bridge the gap between FUNdamentals and core sport programs for youth aged 10-18 (approximately). This Summer the program is starting with Softball but the program may try other sports after a number of weeks.
