For over five years, SOBC – Langley's Tracy Boyd has proudly coached Special Olympics athletes, empowering them through the joy of sport.

Boyd is currently working hard with her fellow coaches, athletes, and mission staff of the 2024 Special Olympics Team BC 2024 Training Squad, as they are ramping up their training for the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Calgary 2024!

As the coach for the Langley curling team, Boyd sees the excitement amongst her athletes.

“This upcoming national competition means the world to my athletes. I’ve never seen them so excited and driven to do better,” she says.

At the 2023 SOBC Winter Games presented by Prospera Credit Union, the team curled their way to a well-deserved silver medal! It was an amazing experience for Boyd and her athletes to see their hard work pay off and enjoy all the memorable moments with each other.

“So far, travelling with and coaching the athletes to Provincial Games has been my favourite Special Olympics experience,” says Boyd. “To see the smiles on the athletes’ faces and to enjoy the camaraderie was amazing. Plus, I got to know the athletes even more as individuals not only just out on the ice, which brought me closer to each and every one of them.”

As Boyd and her curling athletes set their sights on Calgary, she aims to focus on the team’s development, and use the National Games as an opportunity to grow as athletes.

“While I can hope for my team to win, the most important thing for me is that we all learn and grow from the experience, and become better athletes for it,” she says.
