Special Olympics BC – Revelstoke’s Yorke Parkin is one of the youngest athletes of the Special Olympics BC 2024 Training Squad! He is an energetic presence to the alpine skiing team, always wanting to speed on the ski slopes.

“I love going fast and I love sending jumps,” he says.

Parkin had a successful year competing in the 2023 SOBC Winter Games presented by Prospera Credit Union. He skied his way to three gold medals and is excited to capture some more podium finishes at his first ever National Games.

“I was really, really happy,” Parkin said of his Provincial Games results. “It’s really neat that I get to go and compete at National Games. So cool to be a part of something that makes me have more fun ski racing.”

Parkin has been accompanied by his alpine skiing coach Saige Beaumont for over seven years. She has been  key to his strong work ethic and determination to achieve his goals. For Beaumont, going to National Games another opportunity to reach new heights with Parkin and the rest of the team.

“It truly means the world to me to be able to be a part of such a special event and organization, every single person involved inspires me to no end,” Beaumont says.
