When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

I got involved when I was eight and it was my mom that encouraged me to join.

Will these be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?

Yes.

What were your results in the 2019 Special Olympics BC Winter Games? How did you feel about your performance?

I came first for B.C. in my three cross country skiing and skate skiing races at the Provincial Winter Games. I did my best and trained very hard to win these races. I felt happy with my performance.

What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2020?

It will be a bigger team and I enjoy meeting the other athletes. I've been training very hard in order to do well at the Nationals. It will be a great experience and I know I will love it as I love competing.

What is your goal for these National Games?

My goal is to win a gold medal in any of my races. I want to go to the World Games in 2021. I want to be one of the youngest competitors to make it there.

What does competing at National Games mean to you?

It makes me happy to compete. I work and train hard. It would make me proud to bring home the gold. I am looking forward also to meeting new athletes from across Canada to form new friendships.

What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?

Being outside in the winter. I love competing. It's great exercise and the scenery on the trails is amazing.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

The 2019 Special Olympics BC Provincial Winter Games.

What would you tell someone about Special Olympics to encourage them to get involved?

It gives you a goal to achieve and for you compete to the best of your ability. You also get to meet new friends that you keep for a long time. I would encourage them to try the sport and tell them how much fun it is.

What other Special Olympics sports do you participate in?

I love golf, swimming, and I hope to take part in downhill skiing this year if I have time.

Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?

I am in Grade 9 and am 15 years old. I have played on my school basketball & track and field teams. I love outdoor education where I get to mountain bike, rock climb, camp, cross country and downhill ski and hike. I enjoy playing the drums in the school band and at home. I also have a part time job at our local thrift store.

What is one word you would use to describe yourself? :)

Driven and unique.
