When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
About 12 years ago, my fried Erin was at Realm and I saw her flashing her medals around and I asked her “how did you get all those?” She said skiing with Special Olympics. Then Joanne, Erin’s mom called my mom and got me involved in skiing and I have been in it ever since!
Will these be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?
These will be my second National Games. I competed at the in the Nationals four years ago in Newfoundland and then went to the worlds in Austria in 2017.
What were your results in the 2019 Special Olympics BC Winter Games? How did you feel about your performance?
At the Provincial Games I won two gold medals and placed fourth in one event. The fourth-place event has driven me to train even harder for these National Games.
What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2020?
I was extremely excited but at the same time I knew it was going to be a lot of hard work that I am committed to do to represent my province.
What is your goal for these National Games?
I want to do my very best to be able to make Team Canada and represent my country again.
What does competing at National Games mean to you?
It will give the opportunity to see all my friends that I have made from all over Canada.
What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?
I love skiing on the fresh groomers! I love going fast and feel like I’m flying free.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
Getting a gold medal at the World Games in Austria!
What would you tell someone about Special Olympics to encourage them to get involved?
It is a lot of fun and rewarding and you get to meet tons of great people.
What other Special Olympics sports do you participate in?
I also golf and have swam as well.
Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?
I am a blunt person that will tell you the truth. I am a social butterfly and love to meet new people. I like to try new things as I am outgoing.
