When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

I joined SOBC Provincial Office as the Sport Coordinator, Competition in January 2022.

Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?

This is my first National Games.

What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2024?

Being a part of Special Olympics Team BC 2024 means working together as one team; representing the best coast, showcasing our hard work, and exemplifying excellence in sport and spirit.

What is/are your goal(s) for these National Games?

My goal is to make sure that the SO Team BC cross country ski team feels the most supported, stress-free, and prepared during their time at National Games. I also aspire to do my part in fostering an energetic and cohesive team environment for all SO Team BC athletes, coaches, and mission staff.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

Being a part of all eight sports at the 2023 SOBC Provincial Games in Kamloops and watching athletes exceed expectations and try their best cannot be beat.

What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)

Competition plays a big part of my job at Special Olympics BC. I am competition's biggest fan! I think that competition is the greatest platform for athletes to show off all their hard work, and no matter the outcome, every athlete gets to experience achievement on a level playing field. Competition allows our athletes to exceed expectations every time they step out on the field of play and creates an electric environment for everyone involved.

What storylines are you excited to see develop in your SO Team BC sport team leading up to the National Games?

I am looking forward to watching our team build bonds and friendships that transition from online connections as they share tips and training ideas over our team meetings and group chat to then come together in person to train and compete as a united front.

What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?

Special Olympics athletes bring an energy and excitement to every practice and competition that they attend. If you want to learn anything about Special Olympics, come watch our athletes compete and they will show you everything you need to know about what sport is all about.
