Mission

When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

I got involved with Special Olympics with my special needs son around 2006.

Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?

This will be my first Special Olympics as a coach. However, I have been to the National Games in bowling (2018) and soccer (2014), as well as World Games for soccer in 2015 – all as a fan dad following my son Liam.

What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2024?

The effort and attitude our team has put in makes me feel very proud of all the athletes to be a part of this team.

What is/are your goal(s) for these National Games?

To help our athletes be their at best, show good sportsmanship, and to make sure they take a moment to enjoy their accomplishments.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

Following my son and the other athletes to the 2015 World Games in soccer.

What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)

The athletes are so excited and proud to be competing. They look forward to test themselves against the best that the other provinces have to offer.

What storylines are you excited to see develop in your SO Team BC sport team leading up to the National Games?

The growth they show in a sport they love and watching the personal growth I see in each athlete.

What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?

Special Olympics introduces you to a large community that’s can support your life as a whole. It’s also a lot of fun and helps you to grow and push your boundaries.
