Mission

When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

Two years ago. I was invited to help out from an athlete's mom and was hooked right away.

Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?

Yes.

What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2024?

A lot, if I am being honest. I have competed a lot through my life in multiple sports and this gives a completely different energy. One thing that gets lost sometimes is that we are out the for the love of the game. Our teammates are out to have a good time, win or lose. And I think more people need to think this way.

What is/are your goal(s) for these National Games?

I want our squad to have a great showing and to prove to themselves that all the hard work and dedication they have put in was worth it. Does that mean losing all close games? Winning? Who knows, but I just want us to be able to leave Calgary knowing we gave it everything we had with our heads held high.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

Had to to be the opening ceremony for the 2023 SOBC Provincial Games. I have never felt energy like that before. Inside the tunnel before walking out was indescribable.

What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)

Simply put: a lot!! They have put in a lot of hard work to achieve their goals and to see the fruits of their labour is such an exciting and rewarding experience.

What storylines are you excited to see develop in your SO Team BC sport team leading up to the National Games?

Just the gel of the team. Coming together with one goal and being on the same page. Building stronger relationships within our little hockey family.

What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?

It’s the best decision you could ever make. I can’t imagine not doing it now.
