When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

I got involved with Special Olympics in 2005, starting with bowling.

Will these be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?

I was in the summer National Games and competed in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. I also went to Thunder Bay to compete in curling for National Games.

What were your results in the 2023 Special Olympics BC Winter Games? How did you feel about your performance?

Our team, the Burnaby Wolves, got a gold medal in the competition. To win a medal feels great because we worked together as a team. It made me feel happy and positive about our team and respectful of everyone that competed. Sometimes when we were competing we congratulated the other teams too. It felt so good to be with everyone and doing our best.

What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2024?

Meeting new friends, being part of something that brings people together from all over Canada. It feels challenging and also makes me very proud to be part of the National Games.

What is your goal for these National Games?

My goal is to try my very best and see what will happen... and try to win a medal!!!

What does competing at National Games mean to you?

It means that I need to work hard. I need to practice and it is a complete honour to be chosen to represent SO Team BC.

What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?

I love curling because it is a team sport and we have to work together. It's like a big family with friends.

What would you tell someone about Special Olympics to encourage them to get involved?

They should check it out because it's fun to try things you have never done before. You learn a lot about teamwork and respecting the people you play with. It means you can be part of something that is bigger than yourself.

Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?

I am a horseback rider since I was nine years old. I am in theatre and have been in many plays with Theatre Terrific in Vancouver. I have worked at Safeway for over 15 years. I write stories and draw pictures... I even had some shown at the Burnaby Art Gallery. I love to make bracelets that I give to people and also sell sometimes. My mom is a great supporter of everything that I do. I have had four pet budgies... and am sad that "Sky" my last budgie died... but I will get a new budgie pet when I get back from Calgary. I sing in the Theatre Terrific choir and we even do ASL when we sing. I am now in a Drum Making class and am making my first drum. Bill, who is Cree, is teaching the drum class. I call him my brother #2, cause I do have a brother in Ottawa who was in and works for the military. I am going to turn 41 when I am at the Nationals in Calgary.

What is one word you would use to describe yourself? :)

Kind-hearted.
