When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

My mom got me started in Special Olympics when I was 7 years old. I am now 29. I learned how to skate, swim, bowl, curl, golf, and play basketball and soccer since then.

Will these be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?

I have competed as a speed skater at National Games in Alberta and Newfoundland. Thunder Bay will be my third time competing in the National Games.

What were your results in the 2019 Special Olympics BC Winter Games? How did you feel about your performance?

I brought home a silver medal and two bronze medals from the Provincial Games in 2019. I was very happy when I came in first in two of my races.

What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2020?

I am proud and excited to be able to compete in National Games again. I like training and getting fit. I like being with my friends, and making new ones.

What is your goal for these National Games?

I will try to bring home a gold medal and meet new people from all over Canada. I also want to support my teammates.

What does competing at National Games mean to you?

I like to train and stay fit so I can be ready to do my best.

What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?

Skating is a good exercise for me. It makes me strong and healthy.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

I like going on a bus with everyone, and staying in a hotel together. I also like the Healthy Athlete screening.

What would you tell someone about Special Olympics to encourage them to get involved?

I have good friends that I met through Special Olympics.

What other Special Olympics sports do you participate in?

I also do Club Fit, basketball, curling, bowling, and golf.

Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?

I work at Thrifty Foods twice a week, vacuum at a Seniors Residence twice a week, and volunteer at the Food Bank every week. I am very social and try to make people happy.

What is one word you would use to describe yourself? :)

Friendly.
