Ann Jorgensen

When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?

In 2004 when we arrived in Campbell River and our son became involved.

Will this be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games were you part of and in what role(s)?

I have attended National Games in 2014 Vancouver and 2018 Antigonish.

What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2020?

It is an honor to be part of an amazing team. Each member brings a wealth of experience and talent and I feel so proud to be part of this experience.

What is/are your goal(s) for these National Games?

To make sure that I am able to provide all the necessary support to the coaches and athletes.

What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?

Touring the campus of St. FX and seeing the cauldron with each province's stone in place. It shows how we all come together with the same focus and goals. Then returning the next year to show my husband what I witnessed and experienced.

What does competing at National Games mean to your athletes? (or, if this is your first National Games, competition in general)

As this is my first National Games as a mission person, being able to witness all the hard work involved for our athletes and their dedication and all the coaches committed to providing the best support to prepare their athletes for the Games is so rewarding.

What storylines are you excited to see develop in your Team BC sport team leading up to the National Games?

Excited to see all the opportunities that our athletes get to prepare themselves for the Games.

What would you say about Special Olympics to encourage someone to get involved?

Special Olympics has been an amazing experience for our family. Once you get involved you are hooked for life! It has opened so many doors for our son and has given me opportunities to expand my knowledge and coaching skills.
