When and how did you get involved with Special Olympics?
I have been involved in Special Olympics for 11 years now. I started off with the Learn to Skate Program to build up my core strength and coordination which I lacked.
Will these be your first Special Olympics Canada Games? If not, which other National Games did you compete in, and in what sports?
I have completed in three back-to-back National and World Games - two for figure skating, and one for basketball.
What were your results in the 2019 Special Olympics BC Winter Games? How did you feel about your performance?
Every competition I gave it my best.
What does it mean to you to be part of Special Olympics Team BC 2020?
The accomplishment and pride to be able to be representing for my region.
What is your goal for these National Games?
To get a spot in the World Games.
What does competing at National Games mean to you?
Competing at the National Games is a testimony of my skills and techniques that I have been working on through the years, and the best part is being able to show off my performance.
What do you like most about the sport you will compete in at National Games?
I love feeling the breeze when I move across the ice.
What is your favourite Special Olympics experience to date?
The first time I attended a World Games.
What would you tell someone about Special Olympics to encourage them to get involved?
If you enjoy playing sports, don't let your challenges stop you, come and play and be part of the community that accepts you for who you are.
What other Special Olympics sports do you participate in?
Basketball and softball.
Please tell us a little bit more about yourself! What else would you like people to know about you?
I'm a person who has had a lot of challenges, I was able to gain confidence and learned to believe in myself through the 11 years of being involved in Special Olympics.
