Upcoming Events for March 22, 2017


● Long distance speed skaters have their final race of the Games today, with the 1500m.
● On the cross country track, the 4 x 1km relay finals and the 100m classic finals are taking place.
● Snowshoers are all set for divisioning in 50m and 400m, as well as competing in the 5km finals.
● Alpine skiers are hitting the slopes for divisioning for all levels of the slalom.
● Floor hockey East will play the semi-final game against the tie-breaker winner of Costa Rica vs. Jamaica, while Team West has a 3-shift playoff against Ukraine to decide the number 1 seed. If there is no winner after the 3 shifts, it will go to sudden death. They will be play the semifinal tomorrow as well.
● Figure skaters continue the second portion of their ice dance competition for both ladies and men.
 

Highlights from March 21, 2017


● Floor hockey Team West battled back from a 4-3 deficit to beat South Africa 5-4.
● In their first game floor hockey Team East beat Costa Rica 6-1, allowing the first goal against in the competition so far. In their game against Hungary, they lost 3-1.
● Speed skaters continued their medal streak, finishing the day with 2 golds, 1 silver and a bronze.
● After the first of two rounds of ice dance routines, Team Canada is sitting pretty with 4 individuals sitting in first place, 2 in second place and our ice dance pair in 1st place.
● Snowshoers dominated again with the 200m finals, finishing the day with 3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.
● Cross country ski athletes hauled some medals as well, with 2 silvers and a bronze in the 1km and a bronze in the 7.5km
● Alpine athletes shone today with the Giant Slalom finals, snagging 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals
● Family and friends in Graz gathered for a celebration of Team Canada in the evening at the skybar, a venue with beautiful views high above the city. All in attendance were treated to incredible stories of Team Canada’s resilience and determination at the Games.|
 

Interesting Facts


● Tyler Haddad, floor hockey Team West player, has lost 20 pounds since increasing his training regimen in preparation for Austria. He is now down to 165 pounds and is now consciously making healthier choices when it comes to his eating habits.
● Darren Boryskavich is a hometown hero in Russell, Manitoba where his name and photo have been posted alongside Theory Fleury and Jon Montgomery. Jon Montgomery event sent Darren a video wishing him good luck at the Games in Austria!
