Meet Team PEI 2018 athlete, Geoffrey Bridges

Geoffrey Bridges

Geoffrey Bridges, Charlottetown, has been a Special Olympics PEI athlete for 20 years. Geoff first joined Special Olympics because he had friends in the program, and they told him it was fun. Geoff decided to give Floor Hockey a try. After scoring a goal on his first night, he was hooked!

Geoff participates in a number of sports, including Floor hockey, Soccer, Softball and 5-Pin Bowling. He is a member of the Team PEI 2018 Soccer team, and will be representing PEI at the 2018 National Summer Games in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. To prepare for the National Summer Games, Geoff is training indoors with the Softball team on Tuesday evening. In addition to this, Geoff plays Floor Hockey and participates in the Synergy Performance program.

The 2018 National Summer Games will be Geoff's third National Games. He also competed at both the 2012 and 2016 National Winter Games for Floor Hockey.  Geoff's favourite Special Olympics memory is from the 2012 National Games. He recalls scoring his first goal at those National Games.

Geoff says the best parts about being involved in Special Olympics is the opportunity to compete, meeting new people, and the friendships he has formed from being a part of a team.

Geoff works at Sobeys on Allen Street in Charlottetown; Geoff has worked at Sobeys for 8 years. His coworkers at Sobeys have been amongst Geoff's biggest fans! They have supported Geoff's journey to National Games by hosting fundraising event in store, and have cheered on Geoff at Pep Rallies.

When Geoff is not training, or working, he enjoys watching movies or playing computer games. Geoff cheers on the Montreal Canadians hockey team.
