Team Canada Athens Update
Along with our colleagues at Special Olympics International we have been monitoring the general strikes that have occurred over the past two days here in the Games' host city of Athens.
Along with our colleagues at Special Olympics International we have been monitoring the general strikes that have occurred over the past two days here in the Games’ host city of Athens.
We want to assure the many families, friends and supporters of our team in Canada that, despite the images being broadcast by international media, the team is well and taking part in an incredible sport experience. It is as we expected it to be and neither the venues, transportation or accommodations have been adversely affected.
These isolated incidents of protest are happening in a very localized area of the city that is far from the competition venues and accommodations, and Games organizers are working closely with local authorities to ensure the safety of all Games participants.
Please continue to cheer on Team Canada and we will keep you apprised of any significant developments. These will be posted on Special Olympics Canada’s and Team Canada’s websites. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org
