Special Olympics Canada Officially Unveils Special Olympics Team Canada Logo for 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games
TORONTO, ON, July 16, 2014 – Special Olympics Canada has officially unveiled Special Olympics Team Canada’s logo for the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games, which will take place in Los Angeles, California from July 25 to August 2, 2015.
The official 2015 World Games Team Canada logo was created by long-time Special Olympics Canada partner and supporter, GREY Canada, and reflects the determination and athletic spirit of Special Olympics Canada’s athletes. The logo, titled ‘Outstretched Arms’, balances contemporary sport with traditional Canadiana, with the outstretched arms as a symbol of the impact sport can have.
Darlene Remlinger, Vice President, Managing Director for GREY Canada, says “GREY Canada is proud to have created a logo to represent our country’s finest athletes, coaches and volunteers from Special Olympics Canada at the 2015 World Games. The outstretched arms design, carefully crafted within the centre of the Maple Leaf, not only creates a connection to the World Games logo but also celebrates the joy and sense of accomplishment felt in the transformative power of sport.”
The 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games will feature roughly 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches from over 170 countries around the world. The 2015 World Games are also expecting an estimated 30,000 volunteers and another 500,000 spectators to lend their support. The 2015 World Games will be the largest event hosted by Los Angeles since the 1984 Olympic Games.
“Special Olympics Canada is thrilled with the final result of the 2015 Special Olympics Team Canada logo. GREY Canada has done an incredible job of embracing the spirit of Special Olympics within this design,” said Special Olympics Canada CEO, Sharon Bollenbach. “I know every member of Team Canada will be excited and proud to wear this logo at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in LA next summer.”
The release of the 2015 Special Olympics Team Canada logo comes at the close of the Special Olympics Canada 2014 Summer Games, which took place from July 8 to 12, in Vancouver. Officially unveiled during the closing ceremonies of the Special Olympics Canada 2014 Summer Games, the logo was modeled by 2015 Team Canada Chef de Mission, Johnny Byrne.
“A big part of Team Canada`s vision centers around the great honour and responsibility we hold in representing our country on the world stage,” said Johnny Byrne. We are very excited about our newly unveiled logo because it will allow us to put our heart on our sleeve. Anyone who sees us in LA will know we are Canadian. That is exciting for us because we take great pride in representing Canada and look forward to being awesome ambassadors for our amazing country on and off the field of play.”
In the coming weeks, Special Olympics Canada will announce the athletes heading to the 2015 World Games as part of Team Canada.
