Upcoming Events for August 4, 2018
•    Final day of competition of the Special Olympics Canada 2018 Summer Games
•    Final medals of the Games for athletics, basketball, bocce, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, softball and swimming will be handed out
•    The Closing Ceremony will take place at 7pm at the Keating Centre
•    The Athlete Dance will take place from 8 – 10 pm at the Keating Centre
•    Athletes departures on Sunday August 5, 2018


Highlights from August 3, 2018
•    Medal presentations continued for athletics and swimming
•    Medal presentations occurred for golf
•    The final day of Healthy Athletes took place
•    50th square had evening entertainment to celebrate the Games
•    The track was the place to be with a raucous crowd watching the 50 and 100m races in the evening

Interesting Facts
•    Special Olympics Team Newfoundland and Labrador soccer athlete Nadia Breiton died her hair blue, red and yellow in honour of the Newfoundland colours. She says it gives her “good luck!”
•    Special Olympics Manitoba basketball teammates Adam and Sarah have quite the height difference. Adam stands at 6 foot 6 while Sarah is 4 foot 11
•    Dr. Harold Gjerdr, clinical director for Opening Eyes is the youngest clinical director at only 30 years old
•    Special Olympics Team Yukon bocce athlete Carrie has roughly 30 supporters who have traveled across Canada to be here to cheer her on! Family member Diana Gaugh traveled from Quebec and says Special Olympics has changed Carrie’s life. It has given her “a reason to exercise and become part of a community” and she is so grateful!
•    Nicole Roberts, Special Olympics Nova Scotia athlete and local Antigonish Sobeys store employee is thrilled to have medaled in these Games in front of the hometown crowd
•    Over 3 days, Healthy Athletes totaled an incredible 1,522 screenings!
•    Oneida Michel, Special Olympics Saskatchewan bocce athlete has won all 4 of her matches
