Team Alberta floor hockey player, Eileen Mooney

Eileen is one of a trio of skillful female players who make up the Team Alberta Wolfpack floor hockey team and she is determined to make her mark at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2020.

This will be Eileen’s first time competing at Winter Nationals and she said that she could not be going with a better team.

“A privilege to go with a team that fights [hard to win],” says Eileen. “It’s an honour.”

While it is her first Winter Nationals, Eileen has big-stage experience having competed as part of Team Alberta in 2018 in soccer.

Eileen is focusing on improving her focus and training with the goal of becoming the best version of herself.

She believes that this effort will not only help her as an individual, but also a better teammate helping support the Wolf Pack in their quest for the gold medal.

Eileen’s team-first attitude extends to her ability when she plays and had this to say about the strongest part of her game:

“To me I think it’s not giving up – I go all out and try my best to shoot that extra goal.”

At only 23-years-old, Eileen is grateful for her time in Special Olympics and the challenges that the programs have provided to her.

She says that her experiences with Special Olympics have helped her grow as a person, open up more, and showcase not only her strengths, but also her weaknesses.

Some of her motivation behind pursuing hockey and soccer as passionately as she does, comes from her father who is also passionate about sports.

She says that he helps push her to become a better version of herself and will hopefully help her reach her ultimate goal of going to Worlds with either sport.

To help develop her game for both soccer and hockey, Eileen has been working on her conditioning at the William Griesbach Training Centre in her hometown of Edmonton.

As Eileen and her Wolfpack teammates would say, “The strength of the pack is the wolf and the strength of the wolf is the pack.”
